Re: Okna
I just got Okna installed in my house. Took a bunch of pics and will post before/after once I get them sorted out. Very happy with them. I chose them even after reading about the whole foam issue (and also after reading that foam filled is overplayed anyways).

Cleaning stickers off windows
Just got new Okna windows installed (800 series double hung & pictures, 600 series casements on a bow). Most of the stickers came right off, but the sticker indicating the order# and contractor name is stubborn and on the outside of my upper level bow window (so not easy to rub hard with windex ...

Re: Okna quote good? & Tax credit question?
david (& others): When you & others say Okna is a better quality than tristate, can you translate that into real world experience terms for me? In other words, does that mean that 3-4 years from now, tristate's windows will feel like they are losing their NFRC rating or start feeling more br...

Re: Okna quote good? & Tax credit question?
Thanks a ton. I really appreciate your time & your comments. I spoke with the Okna dealer and told him flat out my concerns and that it was between him & Tristate w/ their lifetime parts&labor. He almost said what you said verbatim. How I am comparing apples to oranges, how Okna is just ...

Re: Okna quote good? & Tax credit question?
WoW. Regarding question #3 that you can't answer. Let me ask it another way... What is the benefit of going with a well built window, such as the Okna 800, versus going with a potentially mediocre built window that has slightly better NFRC numbers and a lifetime parts/labor warranty (company has bee...

Re: Okna 800 series
I'm talking about the 500 picture window not qualifying, not the double hung, that qualifies. The 500 picture has a .31 SHGC, the 800 picture NFRC results JUST came in at the NFRC website and seems to make the .30 cutoff for SHGC (double-pane...the triple-panes all qualify obviously).

Re: Okna quote good? & Tax credit question?
2 updates (see below for questions): ======= 1. 2nd Okna dealer stopped by. $4600 quote (just keeps getting better!). Uses the low expansion foam during install (everyone else uses fiberglass insulation). He himself will be present during the install (along with his installer of 10 years). 3 for 3 i...

Re: Okna 800 series
Ok, just saw the 500, 800, and Starmarks side-by-side. The Starmark definitely has a thicker vinyl profile, not huge, but thicker than the 500/800. Enough to sway me away from it. The 500/800, to my naked eye, seemed similar in their vinyl thickness profiles, it may not be in reality, but all I care...

Re: Okna quote good? & Tax credit question?
Do a google search of "Bow window under short overhang - Installation? (Pics)" and you will see my situation exactly. In a nutshell, it's a short overhang, but Okna can build it to spec. Anything else would require a workaround (i.e. roof, lowering my inside sill, etc.)

Re: Okna quote good? & Tax credit question?
david: Yes, I did think that. Couple of things. The $5300 quote was done only over the phone. He didn't want to drive to my place because it was a 45 minute trip for him, that was my 1st caveat with that guy. As for the less $$ contractor, I found him by looking at houses in my area, saw one with th...

Re: Okna 800 series
Nevermind, I found a dealer in NJ who is coming up here in a few days with the 500, 800, & Starmark samples. Will post back my thoughts on the 800 to this thread.

Re: Okna quote good? & Tax credit question?
Great great great!!!! (And it'll actually be $4725, not $4755, math error). I figured it was probably decent because the next closest competitor offered the same package, but 500 series windows for $5300 total. Everyone here has been a TREMENDOUS help. I literally went from not knowing what a double...

Re: Okna 800 series
(last question), and does 3/16" wider translate into 3/16" less visible glass as a result?
You wouldn't be able to snap a closeup of one vs. the other, would you?

Dealer won't have samples for a month or two. Is the 800 as thin a frame as the 500?

Re: Serious Windows
True, but I sensed from "I haven't made any decisions yet, but I am planning on being in this house for 15+ yrs (I hope)....so, might make sense..." that Patricks may have ROI in his mind, so just giving my 2 cents on that. A good saying I once heard "I'm too poor to buy inexpensive t...
