Re: Problems with Okna Starmarks

No one's done any work on the house yet. Just fielding bids at this point. I'm just caught in a domino effect right now. Decided to replace roof because we had ice dam damage this past winter, and our roof is crap. Which led to discovering that our chimney needs repairs and we have mold in our attic...

Re: Problems with Okna Starmarks

Thanks guys. That makes me feel much better. I've been dealing with a bunch of contractors recently (roofing, fencing, mold remediation, masonry,... whew!) and I was dreading having to maybe haggle yet again.

For giggles I may try to post a pic of the pink clouds later.

Problems with Okna Starmarks

It's been quite a while since I've posted here, guys, but it is with a heavy heart that I do so. :( I had 27 Okna Starmarks installed in January of 2010. I've been doing some serious housecleaning the last few weeks and have noticed some clouding issues between the panes on several of the upper sash...

Re: What Options for Wood?

We put in the white Starmarks not quite 2 years ago and have been very happy with both looks and performance. The "shiny" look that vinyl sometimes has was a concern for us as well. The Starmarks don't seem to do that as much as some others. I'm not certain about their wood look since it w...

Re: Okna repalcement window

We got Okna Starmarks installed last year (I guess it's the 900 series) and have been very, very happy so far. Yes, there is visible glass loss (but we were prepared for that) and even a bit more since we opted for grids this time around. And yes, the glass loss is more pronounced on the smaller bat...

Re: Okna 800 Insert Glass loss

Hey Winton! I see you went with the Okna 800s. Good for you! But I am kind of sorry I mentioned the glass loss thing. Masterext is right. Once they're in, you'll get used to it and it really isn't that big a deal anymore. It's easy to get fixated on the details since it is such a major purchase. But...

Re: Okna's Starmark Window

We did inserts. By frame I just meant the piece on the replacement that they popped into the existing frame. The Starmark is just a bit wider around the glass than other some other replacement windows out there. Not in a huge clunky way or anything, but it is. We liked that it's made of the composit...

Re: Okna's Starmark Window

Had 27 of them installed in January. We're very happy with their performance so far. We liked the strong look of the frame, but it does eat up a bit more glass area than some of the other windows out there. It may be worthwhile taking a look. Unfortunately, we did not look at the 800s, so I can't gi...

Re: NT Window vs Simonton

Thanks, WOW, for the in-depth explanation of all those terms.

I have been looking for the AI/AL rating for my windows (installed in Jan.), but have not been able to locate that info. Would it be listed anywhere else besides AAMA?

Re: Harvey are they good?

Hi moly! I can't answer about the Harveys, but as for other options, did you look into the Okna Starmarks? The dealer in southern NH is Morgan Exteriors (hope I can say that here). They were far less expensive than the other manufacturers you mentioned. I know, 'cause I looked at just about all of t...

Re: Harvey, Simonton, others?

After many (and I mean MANY sales pitches... I think we looked at 7 different manufacturers), we went with Okna Starmarks. The dealer we used is in Southern NH as a matter of fact. We've been pretty happy with them so far (but it's only been 8 months). I can definitely say that that the house is qui...

Re: Harvey, Simonton, others?

I can't tell you if Newpro is any good or not, but if you invite them into your home, be prepared for hours of agony. The sales process is torturous and you'll more than likely end up with your ears bleeding. Seriously, lots of game playing and "This price is good for tonight only..."...

Re: Renewal by Anderson

As a humble consumer, I cannot say for certain whether RBA is a top echelon product or not. What I can tell you about is my experience with them. About 5 years ago, we showed some interest in replacing our windows. Before the salesman even came out we were very straightforward with him: We just boug...

Re: Windows for new home

Ouch on the contractor. You build a home on the coast, pay the money for impact windows. People (especially contractors) always want to cheap out on windows. Why is that anyway? I mean, won't a contractor just build in the extra price for a better window? My neighbors across the street are building...
