Re: Need an update on Crestline
I was not looking for a testimonial from you guys. I'm just gathering opinions to make a good judgement call. I have a call into the Crestline sales rep to find out why their fiberglass windows have the AAMA certification, but their vinyl windows don't, as listed in their brochures. I understand tha...

Re: Need an update on Crestline
All these general remarks about buy this and don't buy that are not informative.
What's wrong with vinyl windows?
Exactly what is in these 'acceptable' windows that makes them ok, while the
others should not be installed?

Re: Need an update on Crestline
OK, so Consumer Reports is guilty of a sin of omission. However, what about the windows that they did report on? Can you say that the Pella, Marvin, Crestline, etc. deserve the good ratings they got? If they are of lessor quality than the windows from independent suppliers, what exactly makes them s...

Re: Need an update on Crestline
I am not ignoring advice from this board, just weighing it against my own observations. I have not decided yet to go with Crestline or with Advanced Windows recommended by my installer. If you look at Consumer Reports October 2007 report on window replacements, Crestline was one of the few companies...

Re: Need an update on Crestline
OK, all the things you mention are not apparent to a visible inspection in a store. I looked at windows from Felco, Champion, and Advanced. I can't see any apparent differences. Crestline uses double-wall construction, 3 1/4 fusion welded frames and a steel-reinforced sash. The 300 series I am consi...

Can you be more specific. They looked good in the store, but maybe I am missing
something not visible.

Need an update on Crestline
I have seen a lot of trouble reports on the FixIt forum about Crestline. Most of them were on their line of wooden windows. What about their Vinyl windows? Lot's of complaints about leaking Crestline windows. Any validity to all these complaints? I saw their windows in a Menards, and they look subst...

Re: Stacking windows
They are double pane tempered glass. The windows resting on it are double pane non-tempered glass. Everything is in vinyl. The center window is 62 inches high by 66 inches wide. The window it rests on is 18 inches high by 66 inches wide. These are bordered by two vertical beams. Between these beams ...

Stacking windows
My installer is telling me that putting large windows atop smaller windows does not require any special supportive members if the lower smaller windows are made of tempered glass. Is this reasonable?

Re: Window install pricing
You kind of lost me with this UI. Is this the measure of the energy transfer capability? I only know of double pane vs. triple pane, argon filled, and E glass for UV affecting the price of the glass. I was also trying to break out the price of labor from the cost of the window itself. If you use the...

Re: Window install pricing
All I am trying to say is that pricing should be based on the height
and width of a window and not treating all windows the same. This
is especially important in a big window opening that may be composed of several different windows combined in a single large
frame.

Re: Window install pricing
I think it is a far reach to say big windows can be easier to install than smaller windows. I'm sure that doesn't happen very often. This whole pricing scheme of so much per window is pretty slipshod to me. Are you saying that contractors can get a higher quality window than I can. Yes, the windows ...

Window install pricing
I don't understand the pricing of window installation, either from a company or a private contracter. They all seem to focus on the number of windows, or panels in a big picture window. Logically, I would think that it takes more effort to install a large picture window than a much smaller window, i...

Re: Need help with selecting windows
Was out at the Advanced showroom. They are recommending I change my configuration from two small windows to three because they are supporting the picture windows and casements above them and this could cause the vinyl to sag after a few years. Should this be a concern for me, or is the manufacturer ...

Re: Need help with selecting windows
Besides the picture window, I will be using two large casement swing out windows on either side of the picutre window. These three windows will sit on two narrow height windows to fill in the height since casements are only about 5 feet high. Not having kids or pets, do I really need tempered glass ...
