Re: Vinyl Replacement Windows

There are very few vinyl manufacturers in the United States. Maybe that's what the salesmen meant. Most window fabricators buy vinyl extrusions from a very few companies, so there isn't much difference in the vinyl frame material. That's also true of glass, only a few manufacturers of glass. So basi...

Re: Serious Windows

I believe the labor portion of a manufacturers warranty is to cover the labor to repair a defect, not the installation. This is a common component of most high end window manufacturers, Andersen being the notable exception.

Re: Serious Windows

Does anyone else worry about Heat Mirror? I understand this is what Serious Materials uses to get those super low U-Values ( quad glazing with Heat Mirror). Also that the window costs three times more than vinyl windows. Or that the Serious Materials warranty does not include labor? I know there wer...

Re: vinyl replacement windows jeldwen vs. PlyGem (Certain Teed)

Compliance with the federal tax credit depends mainly on the glass package you select. ALL JELD-WEN vinyl windows will meet the requirement if you select the Energy Saver Plus glass package.

Re: Simonton Windows on the West Coast

The Simonton Impression series is a high end replacement window that compares favorably with the best of the market. Because of differences in architecture, consumer preferences and codes, Simonton manufactures products on the west coast designed specifically for west coast conditions. They make two...

I would consider Simonton, a better product than any you have mentioned so far. Should be available through Norandex.

Re: Renewal by Anderson

Isn't the Renewal by Andersen made from sawdust and vinyl? How can that be better? And haven't they only been making that window for about 10 years? Not exactly since before the Wright brothers flew at Kitty Hawk. Joe must have paid a bunch of money for the RBA franchise and is now desperately tryin...

Re: confused on patio door choices-insulated filled vinyl frame?

Any good manufacturer will have their product tested and NFRC certified. That's the best way to tell what the energy performance will be. If foam filled frames have a lower U-value they are more efficient. If they don't, they are not.

Re: confused after first presentation

I would say none of those things ring true. Sounds like the salesman needs a little more education. 1. Aluminum clad wood windows are no more prone to water behind the cladding than are vinyl clad windows. Several national manufacturers with excellent service records offer alumimum clad windows. The...

J.D Powers sells their rankings and Simonton paid a fortune to be ranked #1. With their prices, they can afford it.
