What type of wood do you suggest? Pine, poplar or something harder?

Building frames/jambs for double hung windows

I picked up 8 windows which were replaced and have the top and bottom sashes only. Is it possible and worth my time/effort/$ to build frames for these? I would be using for a hunting cabin, nothing elaborate but need windows that are going to keep the elements out.
