Re: Laminated glass vs. tempered glass
Is tempered glass required by code on this installation or do you just want it as an extra safety measure?

Re: Laminated glass vs. tempered glass
Laminated glass is 2 pieces of glass with a clear laminate heat bonded between the 2 panes. The advantage of laminated glass is it works very well for security, because it is nearly impossible to break thru it from an impact and it is very good at reducing sound transmissions. Tempered glass OTOH do...

I would get in touch with you dealer. Obviously when a company goes out of business a lot of things change.

Re: Replacement Windows
I'd recommend you keep shopping. Not really familiar with the Crusader from Northeast Building Products but I don't really care for sashlite windows. Alside Excalibur isn't considered a premium window either. A search for reviews on the Excalibur should help you decide if it's for you. Some of the b...

I would also highly recommend you look at an actual sample of whatever casement window you decide to go with. Often people are disappointed at the cosmetic differences between double hungs and casements by the same manufacturer.

Re: How do I find the "right" installer
First of all, I'd say dealing with a company that buys their windows from a "wholesaler" might be a red flag in itself. Premium grade windows aren't sold through wholesalers, they use direct dealers who have been carefully screened for credit worthiness, installation practices, financial ...

Re: Blinds in Glass
You won't be able to get argon gas in any window with internal mini-blinds. Some manufacturers do offer a hard-coat LoE. Not as good on summer solar gain but nice in the winter.

Re: How do I find the "right" installer
It's not that difficult, really! Ask what brands the company recommends. Most of us like Sunrise, Okna and Softlite. That a dealer carries these brands does not necessarily mean he does a top-notch install but is is an indication that he is able to recognise a quality product. Plus these are really ...

Re: How do I find the "right" installer
Okay- Got a quote from an Angies List "A" super service award winner. He quoted Alside Ultramaxx triple pane. The installer seemed to be very good. Sites like AL have limited value. They will not tell you whether the products a company sells are the best value nor if the installations are...

Re: How do I find the "right" installer
There is no one best way to perform any installation nor is there any "list" that can assure you the job will be done correctly. I would start by asking about the different windows they carry. Generally, a contractor that carries the better brands will do a better installation because they...
