Re: Sunrise windows & patio door (two color co-extruded vinyl?)
Thank you for the very helpful run down on the Sunrise products! I will try to get some quotes. Do you have any comments about their sliding patio door?

Re: Sunrise windows & patio door (two color co-extruded vinyl?)
Can you explain the Sunrise product line up? I can't figure out anything from their website. I've read references to "vanguard, verde, restorations, essentials" but just not sure which is good, better, and best in the lineup or if they even exist at all. I'm going to contact a Sunrise deal...

Quanta (insulated) storm windows
One dealer actually suggested that I go with Quanta storm windows http://www.quantapanel.com/ instead of replacing our existing vinyl windows. I haven't see the product yet but it seems like storm windows would be complicated to deal with most people I know who have them say they hate them. Any info...

Sunrise windows & patio door (two color co-extruded vinyl?)
I looked at Softlite (elements) windows this week. Spent a couple hours in a showroom looking over a number of windows up close. I'm leaning towards Okna 800s having now looked at both. I was finally able to see windows with the (sure-coat) painted exterior (red and black). It looked pretty durable....

Re: Okna Slider Windows (Lift-out or Tilt-in)?
I saw Softlite windows today, the elements series. The were nice but I'm still favoring the Okna 800. There were two sliders on display but I didn't feel that the lift out elements slider (32" x 48") rolled very well on the track. My hope is that the Okna rolls better but I haven't found o...

Re: THV Compozit windows
I agree with the suggestion to look at fiberglass windows. If you have concerns about vinyl you should pick something that will give you peace of mind in your own home. I'm still shopping around myself but when we started our project my wife said we should get the basic anderson 200 series vinyl &qu...

Re: Okna Slider Windows (Lift-out or Tilt-in)?
Thanks I'll check it out. I have to say that it is tough when you're trying to purchase windows that will last decades. You have to live with your choices for a very long time. I would prefer "thru-vision" screens and my wife will probably make me take the screens out entirely during the w...

WOW: thanks for the info I'll make sure to look at them all if they have them. Pardon my ignorance, but what are site lines?

Re: Which vinyl windows have less frame and more glass?
Did not get pricing on starmark yet. My wife really prefers the Starmark exterior look over everything else but the 800 series is already at the top of the budget and I just assumed that the starmark price would be so much higher. It also looks like you get slightly less glass on the Starmark. I was...

Re: Okna Slider Windows (Lift-out or Tilt-in)?
Wds83: thanks for the fantastic photos the room looks great! I had a few follow up questions if you have the time ... What size are those windows? (rough estimate) How easy are they to slide? Two of the windows look mulled together (vertical seam) how wide is the seam from glass to glass? Do you hav...

Re: Okna Slider Windows (Lift-out or Tilt-in)?
I figured that the demo unit might not represent production units. I think the size might be the problem. Not enough weight from such a small window pane for the window to roll properly. Thanks for the perspective on the tilt-in windows riding on the weather stripping. I never thought about that. I ...

Which vinyl windows have less frame and more glass?
I'm (still) looking at vinyl windows. For all the brands you recommend (Softlite, Sunrise, Okna/HiMark, Gorell, etc) which is going to give me more glass and less frame but still maintain good performance. Also I like the price of the Okna 800 but the exterior profile of the Starmark. To me the star...

Okna Slider Windows (Lift-out or Tilt-in)?
Are Okna sliders only available as lift-out designs or do they also make a tilt-in slider? As a side note: Would anyone be able to post some pictures of the Okna 800 slider windows. I've only been able to see one on display and it was about this size of a basement window (only 18" high). The la...

Re: Okna vs. Serious
Ok good to know for the unconditioned space. I've looked at around 7 products. We started at the bigbox store and moved on to supply houses and then local contractors. I did encounter a sales person who may have "suggested" that Okna was using fillers to make more product with less and tha...

Re: Okna vs. Serious
Ok, I'll see what I can find out. I have another appointment next wed. My gut tells me that the Serious entry level product can't be better than the Okna higher level product line. We have a 1940's brick house Simonton windows that are about 20 years old. I don't think they were installed that well ...
