I also read that it is better to put replacements in from outside than inside. My windows were installed from the inside. The windows were pushed up to the stops and fastened which left a gap at the bottom on the inside. This was filled with clear silicone sealant which looked really bad. The instal...

window wrap-fen-ex&guy&sleeper

Say, I was just reading thru installation questions-March,26. I was wondering if it is standard procedure to install wrapping during the window install or after. I've never done it but everyone I talk to said they did it after window was in. The wrap in your pics looked much better than how the cont...

Guy, yes you might get a better price from contractor, but he is not concerned with educating the customer. I'm also planning on doing the work myself this time so the more I know before I make my purchase could make a big difference in how the job goes. I'm going to go with new construction windows...

Hey there, not here to bash anyone, just with a suggestion. Why not go to a lumber yard and do your research there. Stay away from the big boys like menards or lowes as the sales people generally know less then I do. I have been hitting the smaller ones that aren't nationwide and the sales people ac...

Unfortunately, the window warranty is only as good as the contractor who installs the windows. I found out that to get warranty work done,I had to go thru the contractor. If he does a poor job he obviously isn't going to want a factory rep looking at his work. I was told by the distributor that reque...

contracts&contractors

As some of you know, the contractor who worked on my house did a terrible job. He had a spotless bbb record and I could not find anyone to say a bad word of him. He has been in business since back in the 70's. It didn't seem to matter. In his opinion, the problems I was having were all my fault until...

Just to let you all know, I did win my lawsuit. Court agreed that the windows in my house were improperly installed and ordered the contractor to pay the replacement costs. Needless to say,he will not be doing the work. All I have to do now is get the money from him somehow. Any one wishing to conta...

litigation started

Been gone awhile do to computer failure. Hope I'm okay now. My lawsuit against contractor regarding the windows he installed has begun. He still denies all that I've claimed is or has happened. I have covered all windows with plastic and I've noticed a definite difference in the comfort level so far...

furnace settings after new window installation

The contractor who installed the new windows in my house is saying that my heating system needs to be reset to cycle more often to maintain a more constant temperature because my house is now so much tighter thanks to the superb job he did. I think he is full of b s . Has anyone had to do this? Larr...

The moisture is on the inside towards the living quarters. I realize that moisture can develop on windows if there is a lot of humidity in the house. I usually keep the humidity about 25% to 35%. If it gets below 25% you can't stand it in my house do to the static. If it was just moisture I wouldn't...

The windows that were installed in my house are sold by Norandex/Reynolds under the name Proview. They are made by Atrium Windows and Doors corp. It is my understanding that they also make several other brands. Crestline is one of them. The windows I have are from the 3000 series that is sold under ...

Just because there is no complaints on record doesn't mean anything. In Illinois if you compain to the supplier or manufaturer, they tell you that you have to go to your contractor and have him get in touch with them. How many contractors are going to forward complaints concerning possible installat...

I am not an expert on windows, but I do have a little common sense. I recently had vinyl inserts installed in my house and got a total screw job from the contractor. He did a poor job of installing the windows, damaged some while doing the work but put them in anyway. He also wrapped the trim with a...
