Window sounds
Window sounds
Hi I had vinyl windows put in about 5 years ago. What I would like to know is why would they howl when the wind blows a certain way ? When it does happen it is usually cold out. It never bothered me much and it sounds kind of cool but I don't think everyone would feel that way. I look and everything looks sealed up right.Could the wind be going through the weep holes and make that eerie sound?

Re: Window sounds
The exposed counterbalance chamber under the top sash can make noise because they are shaped like an open tube. Screen frames can also howl. It can be difficult to pinpoint the noise and even more difficult to find something to do to quiet the noise.

Re: Window sounds
I have also heard from a window rep that if the screws in the upper section of the window are not installed through the pre-drilled holes, that can create the wind noise. He told me that from his experience that either installing the screw or putting caulk over the holes seems to solve the problem.
Hope that helps.
