thermally broken accordian door question
thermally broken accordian door question
I'm in Southern California, specifically Orange County near the beach. I am considering installation of a 4 panel (12 foot) aluminum framed accordion door. The quote given me has a thermally broken door and a non thermally broken door. The thermally broken door is about $ 1000 more. Considering where I live, do you think it is worth the extra money for the thermally broken door or could we get away with the cheaper door since our climate is fairly mild. TIA!

What color is the door going to be?
If in the darker range, thermally broken might be a good idea depending on the paint technology.

good question! The window/door frame is going to be white to match the existing white vinyl windows in the rest of the house

White is good in that there is not solar heat gain due to the color.
But $1000 is a small amount to add to the cost of your project. If you have it spend it.

I agree with Anthony, $1000.00 is worth the additional efficiency for thermally-broken aluminum.

+1
If the door is white, don't bother with the premium.
