replacement windows

#1 Post by jlrbailey »

We need to replace 5 Marvin wood windows due to rot. Don't know is we should go with vinyl or another type of window. What is a great window for NW Indiana/Chicago area? The windows are casement windows.

Unless you want to deal with wood rot again, you may want to consider a high end vinyl offering.

Any suggestions on a good, reputable vinyl window? Had a contractor out today selling Provia windows. Around $19,000 for 5 windows. Seems high. There is a window world in our area and someone who sells Alliance. Can anyone suggest a good window brand to look for.

You're kind of straddling both ends of the crap spectrum with those two choices, to be frank.

I would call HomeSealed and see if he will cover that area for you.

That price is high unless there is something very unusual going on .
Sometimes mulled units get confused as one window for example.
The Pro-Via is alright but not top quality and would not warrant that price. Homesealed is top notch in product and installation with a solid history in case any problems arise.

Can you suggest any brand I should be looking for? There is a window world in our area and also a place that sells Softlite, Windsor and Pella. I could get Anderson. I guess I just need a brand of window that would be good. Thanks

Windows that are typically considered top tier are made by Soft-Lite, Sunrise, Okna from the vinyl family of products. There are some others in composites as well.
