Re: Installation started... is this right?

Nope they aren't replacing the siding.
So it's been "wrong" for 20 years and I never noticed.
Kind of funny, I appreciate the education.

So no problems with install other than where I keep sticking my fingers in wet caulk checking out the window.
I should probably stop doing that.

Re: Installation started... is this right?

I assume it's not factory built in, but i don' really know what I'm talking about. It's not on every window. Maybe these come in certain lengths and the choice was waste pieces her and there or make a seam? Wife says he was bending coil in driveway, so maybe he makes these pieces? I get this isn't a...

Installation started... is this right?

Installation started today and I'm mostly happy with what i saw when i came home from work. One question - is the seam in the picture correct? Is it something I should complain about? Looks like saving a few bucks on materials and leaving an unattractive seam that will clog up with dirt and mold. or...

Window Shopping Results... not really a question

I was looking for good, but not necessarily great/expensive windows. I originally was going to do about 35 windows but settled on 28 after deciding to wait on a sunroom and a shaped picture window over the front door. I ended up getting proposals from 6 companies over 2 weeks for the Thermal Park Av...

Window Quality Spread

I've taken several quotes and done some research and I think I have a decent idea on some windows now. I'm looking for some others thoughts on the range of windows I'm looking at. Just looking at quality of window (price and installation company are separate issues right now). Would you all agree wi...

Corner Windows over Bathtub - thoughts on window type?

<r>I have 2 pair of mulled double hungs over a corner bathtub (hopefully the picture works).
Northwest corner of the house in Northern Virginia...so not too cold, not too sunny.
Windows are 46.5 inches high and wide.

Any suggested style of window for this configuration in a humi...

Re: Finding Quality Installation

I was thinking smaller, but well established, certainly not someone without years of history. Don't know if you all like discussing names, but as an example Paul Henry Windows from Warrenton- family-owned and operated since 1990, a showroom you can go see... versus Window Universe, large and online ...

Finding Quality Installation

After some research, I feel like there are several windows I could choose and be happy with the results. After all, I'm replacing 25 year old builder grade windows. Now I am thinking it really is all about installation. A mid-grade window installed well beats a top-tier installed poorly... Other tha...

Re: Volume Discount and Drywall Returns

After more research I understand my drywall return question was dumb for these custom vinyl windows. I didn't realize that the window only went inside the drywall... I thought there was going to be cutting and shimming involved that then needed to be sealed and covered again. I guess that why I'm no...

Volume Discount and Drywall Returns

I'm looking at replacing 20+ windows - 10 upstairs and 10 downstairs. Should price vary much per window if I get them all done or just do half this year? In other words, should there be a significant volume discount? The windows all have drywall returns with wood sills. Does this complicate the repl...
