Re: help fo replacement hardware (knob and lock) for a CTG French door

Most door companies don't make their hardware. I would take it apart and look for a stamping on it as well as a label on the door.

Only one company that I recommend as a default in Wisconsin, and that is HomeSealed.

Re: Feedback on Different Brands for Wisconin

Given the operator types, they all should be close to airtight. The larger guys will probably have the better data set on the STC values as well as options to choose from in that family of products. STC goals will limit some of your triple pane options as well as pool of energy specific front runners.

Kind of all over the place on materials. What do you want, look/feel wise?

How about some picture of the interior and exterior. You can probably just get the glass from a local supplier and de glaze and re-glaze on your own.

Re: Grid and Double Window Pane Replacement

Tempered glass as a benefit..? Not really. Only good for code applications. I would remove one of the IGUs and see if you can get something of 1/2 thickness to fit, without man handling it, in the IGU pocket. Many times there is a bit of wiggle room in those dimensions (Not much mind you) but to whe...

Sure thing. To observe something as going up about 180% in this last 4 years...totally in line with the economy. Devastating trend...but depressingly normal.

Re: Help with Manufacturer

What he said. You need to look for one that looks like it was run through a dot matrix type printer. Not the one that looks like a sticker. Should be near the same location or on the sides of the sash.

Re: Milgard Windows: Am I being too picky?

Big difference between the flange being marred up and the actual frame being scratched if that is what we are talking about.

As much as we try, we tear screens just handling them. That is an easy enough fix, but if the frames are marred up where they are going to be seen, that is not good.

Re: Pella Lifestyle Quote

Guessing they are dead set on that product line? Price increase that you are seeing here is unfortunately, but not unexpected.

I can think of a handful of windows that are superior for a bunch of reasons, but if they like the material and the installer, I don't see anything wrong with it.

With the SGD in there...that would be well in the normal range.

Definitely not ideal to replace a failing old and drafty window with a newer...but drafty window.

Kudos to you and sorting through the BS.

+1. Start with then and then go to a local glass shop if needed. You will need the brackets as well.

Re: basement window replacement

There maybe confusion as to what you and he are talking about. There is an aluminum frame inside the steel frame. Is he saying to remove the steel frame? That can be done but is is tough as DEMike shared. I haven't had a CC payment in a year, we incentivize our client to pay by check or cash. Why w...
