Re: Garden Window
Avoid CertainTeed at all costs. Their days in the window business are numbered. In my opinion. Also, you're not buying CertainTeed, you're buying whomever fabricates them. Simonton or Sunrise would be good choices.

Re: X-act vs. Ideal
Agreed. You can do much better for the money. The Simonton 5050 is in the same general category and it's a vastly better quality window for the money. If you're looking for a better quality window at an additional cost, you can really expand your choices. Ideal has scaled down their operations signi...

Re: High Price or not?
You need to stop calling "marketing companies" and go with local contractors who are independent. Simonton makes a real decent window and they do an excellent job of standing behind them. A reputable local independent guy should be able to crush those prices and give you a better product.

To echo what WoW said, and add that Weather Shield now has a nice new fiberglass window that comes at a better price point to Marvin.

Re: Selling Price of new window??
I left out the sales manager re-hash close and also the best one... The one made famous by the College Park, MD Vytex kiddies where they send company A in and quote a window at $1000 and if they pitch-miss it, they'll have their "rehash company" (since one person can have two companies in ...

Re: Anderson conversion windows
Get your window dimensions and call Andersen. The inserts aren't going to be nearly as efficient as completely new units, but they're incredibly easy to install.
So easy, a Caveman could do it.

Don't forget the Model Home close, or Life Magazine, or the old reliable - "We had some product left over from another job" tactics.

Re: Anderson 100 Series or Milgard Tuscany
Okay. I got the scoop from my Andersen rep today. The new A series is available to be made on every quarter (or did he say 1/8th?) inch. It will be priced approx. 5% more than the 400 series. One of the benefits of it is that all of the models within the A series will share a common 4-9/16" jam...

Re: Anderson 100 Series or Milgard Tuscany
I was going to check, but my version of Andersen's IQ 10.0 doesn't even have the 100 line loaded yet. I have very little info on these so far. I'm anxious to see how this thread develops.

Re: Anderson 100 Series or Milgard Tuscany
It's my understanding that the Andersen 100s come in a limited number of sizes - no customs - and that they're single hungs. This is a new product and I'm going on a brief intro. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Your opinion on my estimate
Eagle windows are very good quality and they're pretty expensive to buy as a contractor. They have been recently purchased by Andersen and Andersen is now trying to figure out how they're going to handle distribution - if they're going to open it up to existing Andersen COE dealers, or just keep it ...

Re: Top 100 window Companies....Any suprises?
My post was vague. What I meant to say was, who published the rankings?
Also, is Fenestration Magazine still being published? I hope so. I used to LOVE that thing.

Re: Neuma Doors
Their parent company is NAN YA PLASTICS CORP. They are actually made in Houston. Apparently all of the profiles are pultruded fiberglass. The colors are limited to white, but there are some really cool features on these doors. I actually expected them to be more expensive than they were. If they can...

Neuma Doors
The rep just came to see me last week and did a presentation on a new door line (to this area) made in Houston called Neuma. They're all fiberglass. I have to say that the doors are REALLY impressive. Apparently they're sold via distributors. It's a really strong door with a lot of neat options. I'm...
