Re: Window Replacement - South of Atlanta

The "lobster tail" with multiple small pieces is most common (at least around here). When done well it can look pretty nice. When done poorly it looks awful. There are other method as well, but as WoW said, it can definitely be done. In the event that they won't and you are okay with that,...

Re: Look of Starmark on Vinyl siding.

Has far less to do with the window or siding than it does how they chose to finish it. It looks to me like they did use a nail fin, or at least some type of filler in the exterior accessory groove. The Starmark has a pronounced screen track as part of the design. Personally I like to see thicker tri...

Brandon: you liked my puffery statement.
Not particularly, just thought it was ironic.

Re: Casement Quotes/Advice

The Apex window is also Alside. They just relabel it. They were recently purchased (Apex) by Great Day improvements which also owns Stanek and a few other brands. Not sure if that will be a positive or negative thing, but its a change in ownership nonetheless. As far as Mr. Window, I met the owner o...

+1 to the feedback above. The windows that you are considering aren't awful. They aren't world beaters, but that's okay, sometimes the "above average" category can work, particularly with a restrictive budget. With that said, the product is the least of your concerns imo. Those rates just ...

Re: Flashing Details on Quote

That is not uncommon as a standard "description" as every home is different. That said, it wouldn't be out of line for you to ask for them to explain those details to you, and then add them to the contract. Maybe they will or maybe they won't, but again, not out of line in my opinion.

Re: Ordering Soft-lite Elements

Good info above. You aren't going to see any measurable difference in performance, its essentially the same window with some minor bells and whistles. As far as the pricey company, are a lot of those doubles, triples, etc? Even for a higher priced company, $37k for 12 windows sounds extreme, often t...

Re: Okna bow window call back

Well this certainly doesn't seem to have been resolved... - If they are stating that this is now complete, I'd agree that its best to hold onto your payment. Clearly this project is not finished, and may need an entirely new or reworked window. The individual windows are probably fine, but the box o...

Re: Some windows comparable to KHPP Genesis?

The bigger question is how are other outfits coming in with their pricing so low? My guess is that they're sending out Larry, Moe, and Curley. Exactly. With zero regard to who your quotes are from or where you are located, $500-$600 is the outlier and the red flag, $1000 give or take is right withi...

Re: Vinyl Window Cost - Installed

So that would be 12 windows and one door. Even in a simplified pricing structure all openings are not created equal. If you say $1800 per opening in 10 openings, can I assume that your quote was $18k total? In that event you are probably somewhere between $1000-$1200 ish per window. That pricing is ...

Re: Leak in window

Its hard to tell if that is a drip cap or a head expander on the top of the window... If a drip cap, it should not be caulked to the siding as best practice. I see them caulked to the siding all of the time on cedar sided homes, this is still incorrect but somewhat less concerning than say a vinyl s...
