Window repair
This isn't a question. I had storms with the slide bolts broken or missing, and one storm missing entirely. I was directed to a mom and pop hardware store in a small town that helped me tremendously. He built me a new storm, and replaced the slide bolts. These people have all kinds of window parts f...

Please describe proper window installation.
There is a lot of talk about quality installation but no details on exactly what that is. I hate vagueness. I need the answers to the questions in advance so I can ask them to somebody else. I need a crib sheet.

How long have you had them? This forum seems to be about people who HATED their windows or people who just don't have a clue y...

Re: What Options for Wood?
I talked to a lady that had installed those "oh so high quality" Marvin wood windows everybody raves about. It rotted too. Her theory is that they tell you you don't need storms. But storms will avoid the interior condensation problem. My wood windows are 52 years old and only minimally da...

Re: Replacement windows Ohio
No, I am not going to the expense of replacing my trim. Tearing off the old, and ruining my plaster is icky to think about. Unfinished pine, inside, is what I want. Thank you though, for the replies. I found a Kolbe dealer nearby. Trouble is, I want to buy these windows through MY installer, who has...

Re: Replacement windows Ohio
I want wood, because I am NOT replacing my trim, and that cheapo vinyl "wood' look is ugly and will not match, so YES I want unfinished pine inside, because my trim is pine and I know how to match it. I have refinished my sills and they look great.

Replacement windows Ohio
I want an aluminum or vinyl clad wood window that I can finish the inside myself. Cost is a factor. I am not interested in fancy glass, features, and other bells and whistles. My current windows have been great but are 52 years old. They do not feature fancy glass or other stuff and my house has bee...
