Re: Extension jamb over fiberglass

I always nail or screw my extension jambs together before installing them. I hate to admit it but I never thought of that until now. Usually, I am working on wood windows, at least on the inside half, and the thickness of the je is considerably less than the 1+" that this job will take, and I ...

Re: Extension jamb over fiberglass

Alternatively, you could build the whole thing (JE and casing) on the ground... That's exactly what I was thinking. Build the je and casing out of pvc, glue and screw it together to make one monolithic piece and use silicone caulk between je and jamb. The window is over the tub with the top of the ...

Extension jamb over fiberglass

Hello, I am installing a Marvin Integrity all Ultrex fiberglass awning window in a bathroom. I am wondering what is the best way to attach an extension jamb, about 1-1/2 inches, to the fiberglass. Screws, nails, adhesive or ...? Another possible issue is that my intent is to use pvc for the extensio...

Re: Casement Quandry

I am studying the Marvin all Ultrex. I don't see where Marvin offers brick mold/sill nose trim kit like Andersen does for the A series. The brick mold is not a problem but I am wondering about the sill nose. Does someone make something for this application or do I fabricate my own?

Re: Casement Quandry

Anthony wrote... Take a look at the AW A series... I did just that--at a COE dealer. What a difference. They had the A series on display along with the sill nosing, which proved to be a little bit of a challenge to find. The salesman was very knowledgeable and helpful and had a quote in my hand in a...

Re: Casement Quandry

I don't forsee any more Hurds in my future. I've got 17 of them and it's time to move on. The sills are made out of that finger jointed stuff. The ones fully exposed to the elements have gone poof. I was fixing them with pre-cut sill from the lumber yard. Then one day I realized I was replacing them...

Casement Quandry

Hello Experts, I have a large 4 section casement window that needs to be replaced. It was originally installed in 1989 as part of an addition and is an all wood Hurd window. The OD of each section measures 24" wide by 54" tall, all attached to a one piece sill with brick mold across the to...
