Is there a sub-forum for retired (as Borat would call it) carpenters?
If not, I can't see this thread having value for anyone at all.
Mr Brown Gas clearly has a some sort of vendetta here. Mr. Brown gas, please show us on the doll where the window salesman hurt you.

Re: Name of group of windows that fits between studs? No header?
You are too kind Mr Window Nerd. While the Brown gas statement that all exterior walls bear some weight and simple folks call it gravity is not incorrect, the condescending insinuation that they should all be treated the same is downright moronic. This cat is sounding more like a shady window salesm...

Re: Name of group of windows that fits between studs? No header?
This addition has engineered trusses, so its not load bearing. I was wondering about windows that were designed to fit between studs, but made to look like one unit for my other property and I'm disappointed that they don't exist. There would be nothing special about the window other than the sizin...

Re: Deciding which contractor/windows to go with
So we’re cleaning brick with muriatic acid now as part of window installation. I’ll make sure to let my team know of the new norm  Now lets take the time spent on an install at his union carpenter rate x's a couple of guys and see if he still thinks windows are marked up too much, lol. $3500 p...

Re: WINDOWS ARRIVED/THE PROCESS BEGINS
Interesting in so many ways. My favorite may be an old union guy complaining about the mark up on windows where most companies net single digits or go out of business because they don't charge enough. I had three union electricians in my office the other day changing lightbulbs, one did the work whi...

Re: Pella Proline replacement options
Miratec is awful IMO. Seen many failures.
LP is good stuff as is the azek, versatex, etc. Never had an issue. Only time I've seen an issue is due to bad or incorrect installation of it.
Same for the installs, The Nerd is on point there. This is done all day everyday by competent guys.

Re: Window Quotes in Tennessee
I have looked at other online reviews and do not see many negative reviews of Mezzo. Where have you been looking??? If anything, that window isn't brought up much these days as there are better choices that the roofers and pickup truck contractors are offering such as Provia. Insignia is an...

two great windows to choose from here. I also don't care for that interior low e, but maybe not awful for your location.

Re: Okna
While the 600 is better than the 500, if you are going white/white without an extensive list of upgrades, the 500 is a nice choice. Bang for the buck champ imo.
Gilkey is far from a great window, easy choice here.

Did you have the company out yet? Which window did you look at? All of Oknas window are good, maybe not a big fan of the 400.

Re: SoftLite single hung?
The reason NOT to buy single hungs: They exist to be a lower cost alternative. Its very rare to find a good one for that reason, since they are made to save a penny here and a penny there.

You can compare them to cars, power tools, fruit, or even ex-wives, doesn't matter. They are both very differnet but equally bad (the last comp wins based on that).
Find some new options.

Never heard of them. Not much info on the webiste. Not very promising. The Okna OTOH is a lock. Easy choice.
