A reasonable defined standard the install should meet?
I'm still dealing with getting the deficient installation of my windows corrected. Because neither the manufacturer's installation instructions nor the terms of my contract were followed, I have essentially stated that I will require a full removal and re-installation by a qualified installer(s). I'...

Re: RiteWindow salesperson comment
Their window has a foam wrap. He told me they don't use foam around the outer and inner edges, I forget what he said but he had negative comments about foam. He claimed they used a composite. Does that sound right? Reading this again, you need to get clarification. Depending on your house construct...

Re: RiteWindow salesperson comment
Not sure exactly what you are asking, but if it is basically whether a perimeter foam wrap makes additional insulation around a window frame unnecessary, the answer is no. For window insulating foam, a closed cell, low expansion product is needed and is the best practice for sealing and insulating....

Re: Insane People Shouldn't Buy Houses
Had a friend over last night that took a few pics for me of the caulking from where the old windows were set that was hiding under the frame. Also check out the one shim I found plopped under the meeting rail. why even bother with that thing. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B04Xrk7sQjPIbUlfbj...

Re: Insane People Shouldn't Buy Houses
Well its been raining pretty much all day and with the trim off I've been keeping an eye on the big window. So far, no signs of water in my wall at all so at least time is on my side while I continue my quest. Grasping at straws for something positive.

Re: Windows to minimize road noise - questions
The Sunrise window is very nice. Our customers that are requesting sound reduction we generally recommend their STC glass. It is only one point less than laminate and typically much less expensive. I don't think you'll notice one to another. I'd also ask about the warranty on laminated glass, I kno...

Re: TrimQuick?
Is it just a flat white vinyl peel and stick? Correct, and I wouldn't mind going with a nicer-looking trim. I have no idea what my options are. I'm also starting to wonder if I'm fighting an uphill battle. The trim leaves most of the adhesive backing on the window frame, which is almost like a thin...

Re: Insane People Shouldn't Buy Houses
Question: Is it common practice to, instead of removing all the old built up caulking on a marble stool along the bottom of the old windows after you remove them, to leave it all and just install the replacement frame with the offset in the rough opening set back deeper inside the house then the pri...

TrimQuick?
So if you saw my thread in the other section you know that I know have to remove the trimquick from every window and see for myself what all was (or wasn't) done. Can anyone recommend where to get this stuff for a decent deal? These clowns did such a horrendous job with it, some pcs cut at bad angle...

Re: Windows to minimize road noise - questions
I am not a window professional, but I did work in music entertainment and am a musician/hobbyist audio nerd/acoustics nerd. First, if you are in an older home, especially with un-insulated walls, air-seal first. It makes a HUGE difference. You are on the right track with the windows. If they don't h...

Re: New Construction Window Issue
1. Don't deal with a "rep" from the window company. Tell them specifically you need a service technician or a quality control person who is equipped and authorized to perform on-site maintenance/repairs or correct any defects that may exist. The former will waste another few hours of your ...

Re: Insane People Shouldn't Buy Houses
I wanted to update my situation in case it may help someone else finding themselves in my position some day. To those of you that replied, THANK YOU. You were absolutely correct about the sash issue being the lack of spacers at the top. It took the credit card company reversing the charge on 80% of ...

Re: Insane People Shouldn't Buy Houses
Again, I cannot thank you guys enough for your comments. To say I have been losing sleep over all this would be an understatement. Now that I have a clear understanding of what some of these things are I am a little bit more comfortable at least, so again I thank you. I had used Vista in 2007-2008 f...

Re: Insane People Shouldn't Buy Houses
Thank you guys for the feedback so far. I really do appreciate it. I know these windows are what they are. My house has some room to spend a little money on improvements and be OK should the need to sell arise, but I can't go too crazy on any one thing or I may shoot myself in the foot. I also under...
