Re: Brand new windows, hard to open?

Are they sliders? My experience is that sliders are generally tighter when new do to the way they sash/weatherstripping fits into the side jamb. If they are double hung units and you have to use much force then I'd say they are over foamed/shimmed our installed out of square. 99% of service issues i...

Re: Window Replacement Help

I am replacing windows in two houses. First house got 7 Windows, I brought homedepote, lower, and independent company Allied Siding and Windows. Home Depot was very expensive for Simontons windows so I forgot about them. Lowes gave me estimate of $4150 for Reliabilt 3900 with lifetime warranty for ...

Re: Windows In Colorado Springs @ 7000ft altitude

I don't have much of a preference on materials yet. I'm open to the advice of the experts there. One thing that is important to me is low maintenance. I don't want to have to paint them and I don't want white, so I'm hoping I can get vinyl or fiberglass that is already colored. I don't want wood si...

Re: Deciding on replacement windows

I know a lot of people on this board are huge fans of Okna but I don't believe the window is worth that much more or any amount more than the Vytex. The Potomac is a great product and you'll be just as happy with either product. The only thing I would caution is the Vytex window is a commodity in th...

Re: CLUELESS about replacements.. PLEASE HELP

Pricing is tricky to gauge on the internet. There are honestly so many factors to determine the rate and what is fair. Every market is different. The next closest city to me the average window prices are literally $80-$150 more for the same exact product. A lot of times homeowners may leave out deta...

Re: Help choosing window style for a large opening of 4th story

Hello, I recently purchased an apartment on the top floor of a 4-story corner property in Medellin, Colombia. The other owners of the building rejected my request to convert my two windows into balconies. The opening is approximately 7 feet wide by 6 feet high. I would like advice on which window s...

Re: New windows have open space to the outside

I agree with windowsdirectcinci You have absolutely no right to not pay your installer. Almost all vinyl windows are designed that way and most customers never make that complaint. Holding money from your contravctor because you dont like a specific design flaw has nothing to do with the contractor...

Re: New windows have open space to the outside

As you said the company has a good reputation and I'm sure did not intend to mislead you. I am familiar with that window and other brands as well. It isn't anyones fault, manufacturers or installers or yours. Just the nature of double hung windows and even sliding windows would do the same thing. I ...

Re: New windows have open space to the outside

I had Slocomb replacement windows, the Harmony 143 series -- double hung with a half screen -- installed in August. I didn't open a window until late Sept/early Oct due to the ghastly summer heat. When I opened one, I opened the top part and slid the screen up into its place behind the open window....

Is there any DIY method to get this done or should I hire a professional to accomplish this? My friend suggested me to go for a professional so as not to invoke more risk to the walls. Suggestions requested. You would most definitely want to hire a professional for a project like this. If you alrea...

Hi Folks, This is my first post here and hoping you all can help out. Our home backs to a busy street and we have 6 windows in our master that backs to this street, which only seems to be getting busier. Thanks! That is one of the things that I have learned while being on this forum to look at these numbers although I don't know where to draw the line. I was at a ABC Supply store and the store manger there told me oh U factor around .30 is good enough, he said you don't need to spend the extra mone...

Re: Patio Doors: Alside vs Viwinco

Thanks for sharing the information.. Alside 6400 series patio door is actually a nice door. This is the only product from Alside I use a have 10-15 go in every month with no issue and almost no service issues. Aesthetically the 6400 is very nice. Re: Metal stiffener shifted on the keeper of my vinyl window.

Hello all, Looking for some advice on how to remedy my issue. I DIY'd a frosted film install and since the keeper was in the way, I removed it. Unfortunately, with no knowledge of windows, I did not realize there was a "metal stiffener" (as Jeld-wen puts it) inside the frame that could sh...
