Window Novice, I'm biased because I'm a sales rep for a company that installs Marvin. As for the Kolbe comparison: 1. There is a "best" space between the glass for efficiency. If the two panes are right next to each other there is little insulation value. The insulation value also drops wh...

Guy, Please don't ever call me a gentleman. Anyway, thanks. I'm glad Pella is making improvements. I have mentioned several times that I like Pella's new clad double hung. They eliminated the vinyl jamb liner and now have a DP rating of 50, which is 10 pts. higher than Marvin's. It is very attractiv...

Guy, You're awful lonely on that Pella bandwagon. I don't know about their fiberglass window but their clad window went from laughable to only acceptable after their upgrade last year. Please reread the posts on this site about their cladding. Eagle makes a very good window but I would have to talk ...

AR50, I wish you would give us a well-thought response. I am skeptical too about Shuco since it seems that everyone on the board recommends their windows all the time. I have never seen a Shuco window in person and have not done research besides ordering a catalog from the company and looking at the...

Sears finally fixed the problem. Sears no longer comes up when you type in Marvin Windows on AskJeeves.com. But "Andersen Windows - At Sears" comes up when you type in "Andersen Windows." I guess they only fix the problems when they are threatened with lawsuits. Is there an Ander...

Tail,

I'm thinking you should get a Marvin quote. I guessed at $1000 per window but you may have a local installer that will do it for less. You could also do it in phases to spread the cost out.

It's a real wood window, not a wood veneer. You'll be very happy with the product.

VHIman,

I brought back "Looking for Advice in Northern Va" for you to read. Pella has a lot of problems that were raised in that string. Care to comment?

I just checked out what it would cost for the cherry interior for a Marvin double hung in an average size. The list price went up over $300.00 per window. This will surely push your installed price to over $1000.00 each. Worth it? For some people I guess it is otherwise they wouldn't make them at al...

Bronze and other dark colors have had a lot of trouble with fading on vinyl windows. A while ago I think FenEx brought up that there is a new process that prevents fading.

Marvin's Infinity line just announced they're making the bronze exterior. The window is fiberglass. It isn't cheap.

Pella has made improvements to their double hung. I saw it at last year's home show in Chicago. The DP rating is up to 50 now and they rid themselves if the vinyl jamb liner but unbelievably still use roll-form aluminum. I don't get why they would reengineer a window and not address the weakest part...

Earwax, I tried typing in other words as well as jibberish in front of windows and the Sears site did not come up. Obviously they paid to have their site come up when someone typed in Marvin and Andersen and probably others. That is a serious problem but not the only problem. The customer called Sea...

Sears on AskJeeves.com

I went on a window quote last night (I work for a company that sells Marvin) and met a couple who had sought out Marvin window on AskJeeves.com. When you search for Marvin Windows there, the first line reads, "Marvin Windows at Sears." The person is then directed to the Sears website. The ...

Marvin gives you the option of having the windows primed white. The painter still has to give it at least one coat. I quote against Pella very often and still can't figure out their pricing. For a whole house job I can be $1000 more than Pella and then $1000 less at the next house for comparable win...

Marvin has tried to get delivery on Integrity down to two weeks. I don't know how consistent they are but I know for the most part they can meet that time frame. Standard size and color aluminum clad Marvin windows usually arrive in two or three weeks. Round tops and and select colors take three wee...
