Re: climatech or climatech plus does it matter that much

If you are purchasing an Alside product, the sad answer would be no. It does not matter much.  ............. Seriously though, Alside is not highly regarded by ANYONE who does not sell the product. In regard to the glass package, it really depends on where you live, and the orientation (...

Re: Lead Abatement

The lead rule ( RRP ) has nothing to do with abatement, it's only containment. I am sure some contractors do abatement as an additional service for profit but that is not the RRP rule all the window guys are talking about. We NEVER have to do abatement. Lead abatement is not the responsibility of t...

Re: Comparing Vinyl Windows

Okna is generally one of the most highly regarded vinyl products available along with Gorell, Sunrise, and Softlite. They certainly have some of the best performance #'s out there. I would not give much though to the "foam-filled" controversy. 1) Foam-filling does is more of a sales gimmic...

Re: Soft Lite Quote

With those options i'd say that price is pretty good. I am very much ANTI $1000 windows (or anything even close to it), but with all of those options, there really is no way to keep the price down regardless of the install.

Re: Soft Lite Quote

What color inside and out? Grids? Lead-safe procedures? Any woodwork? Those will have a major effect on how good the price is... If woodgrain interior with a custom color exterior, grids, and lead-safe, then that is probably a really good price. If white on white with no grids or lead-safe, then it'...

Re: Lead Abatement

Its hard to say the intentions of each company, I would just ask. You should not do business with a firm that is not a certified Lead Safe Renovation firm. To clarify, you will not be doing any abatement really, however it is mandatory to use lead-safe work practices. Some companies build this extra...

Re: Installer question

I am not a fan of lead testing at all. The problem is that the test results are a legal document. If it tests positive (which in your case is admittedly unlikely), you are required to disclose it as such when you go to sell your home, which is a real can of worms. We just use lead-safe practices on ...

Re: Need to replace our aluminum windows!

HomeSealed, and others, The bay is an actual bay that extends from the house and has a headboard and seatboard. He was planning on mulling together three windows, at a 45 degree angle, for the bay (and not changing the headboard and seatboard). Is this inherently a bad idea? I would definitely want...

Re: Need to replace our aluminum windows!

1. The Provia product is good by all that I've seen and heard, although my firsthand experience is minimal. I have substantial experience with the Sunrise, which I've found to be pretty good, but perhaps my opinion is a little bit biased (although I currently sell neither with any regularity). 2. Th...

Re: Request info for Rockville MD replacement windows

The key will be balancing a low U-value with an appropriate SHGC to allow as much passive solar heat gain in the colder months. There is a pro here by the name of Windows on Washington who I believe services your area. He is truly an expert on the subject, is professional in every regard, and carrie...

Re: Need to replace our aluminum windows!

Material cost on a good bay is > $1,700 Agreed. Given the details, the Provia quote to me overall sounds like a guy who runs a "one man show", probably out of his home. He may do great work, but given the aggressive pricing (even with low-overhead), it makes me seriously wonder how much l...

Re: Need to replace our aluminum windows!

Does that include the bay as you specified earlier? $540 average ea(provia) for mostly white double hungs with double pane glass sounds right on track imo... If that includes the bay, then that would actually seem pretty low, and the Sunrise quote would be more in line.
