Re: replacement window newbie with a leak that wont stop
5 pages about air infiltration? You guys are funny. Forgive me if I've missed anything, but has there been any questioning of the validity of the ratings? I believe at least one the manufacturers often recommend on this site is not AAMA certified which makes me question every number they put out. W...

Re: replacement window newbie with a leak that wont stop
A high quality product installed properly will not have any drafts, regardless of the AI rating. As WOW mentioned earlier, the Marvin, even with an AI rating that is inferior comparatively (.27), will still seal pretty darn well and you'll notice no "drafts".

Re: replacement window newbie with a leak that wont stop
Windows are certainly not, nor have they ever been claimed to be, the biggest air tightening potential. I can spray foam 40' of bands and do more to tighten a home than a bunch of window. If a customer is concerned about overall efficiency, can we really recommend a window that has 10X+ the leakage...

Re: replacement window newbie with a leak that wont stop
The fact that there is 10 x's difference just shows how tight these windows are in the first place. That 10 x's improvement will yield far less (1.1-1.5 x's?)when converted to total home cfm, ach, or $ per mo/yr in savings. I agree with your other points... i can email you a copy of the initial eval...

Re: replacement window newbie with a leak that wont stop
WOW, I've actually seen it far more often than I've seen unicorns  .... As for the BPI / ASHRAE difference, that is invalid here as the auditor that we work with uses the the most current ASHRAE standard (62.2?). In fact, he is an instructor for BPI and is lobbying to get their standards up...

Re: Simonton vs Gorell
Imo, you wouldn't go wrong with any of the three. From strictly a ratings perspective, I'd imagine that the Okna is best.

Re: replacement window newbie with a leak that wont stop
Nemo, This is really a hard question to answer. Will you feel a difference? I'd say highly unlikely. Will there be any measurable difference in efficiency? That depends  ... Here is an example: We are currently installing insulation, air-sealing, etc on an audit project (project had an energy ...

Buddy, while I wouldn't call their sgd a "world beater", what particularly do you dislike?...J/W.... I only sell the 6300, and I've found it to be on par with other high-end offerings... If anything, I'd change the vinyl screen frame to aluminum, but I like that it's top-hung similar to t...

Re: Simonton vs Gorell
okna has fantastic customer service and quality control. simonton does not have a window that comes close to a .25 u-factor in double pane. gorell is a .29 in the 5300 series. The question is about a sgd, not the 5300. Also, ecomaster and acmaster are different packages with different ratings. The ...

Re: Softlite Patio Doors and Windows
Softlite's patio is a solid product. Typically a 6' patio door will run in the ballpark of $2k installed, +/- $500 depending on options and other factors.

I can just picture this guy in bed along side of his siding brake all spooned up to it dreaming about what exotic bends he will create in the morning. Nice work........... ...exactly what I was thinking. I'd echo wow and tlh... On the glass packages, your best choice really depends on the climate you live in and how your home is oriented with it surroundings. On a side note, Gorell also offers the super spacer in their Ultra Master glass package.
