Re: Replacement windows with slim frames?
The condensation resistance number is what you need to look for on the A250. Even though it can get Lower U- values, it is doing it via a low-E coating on the interior pane which is more prone to condensation than other glass packages. Re: Okna vs Wincore vs Provia for small rental
The 600 for sure. The capping really depends on the house . It can look odd on older homes when everything else is wood on the exterior. The capping of the sill only seems odd, but is not a recipe for disaster if done correctly. It can be recipe for disaster even if fully capped and always need to b...

Re: Input wanted on proposed fix for improperly installed windows
Just an fyi. A majority of the time , a company that uses subs will provide better installations. Most often subs will demand a higher wage based on their proficiency and freedom to work for a few higher paying window companies opposed to being tied down to just one that may experience slow patches...

Re: Input wanted on proposed fix for improperly installed windows
I think we need to walk this back a bit.
Need to be more precise on wording of contract, do the new windows have a nail flange . Better/more pictures of what was there and what it looked like before things were tore apart.

Re: Receiving quotes and contradictory information
IRC code states that any window within 24”of a door from edge of door to edge of glass on a window needs to be tempered. There also many exceptions To the rule that would eliminate the requirement oF tempered glass. A nail finned window or door is never required by code and what is best depends on t...

Re: Polaris Supreme vs Xl Ultimate
The price increase is inline with dealer cost. It does not have krypton, just 2 of the 3 panes with Low-E. I don’t know if it’s worth it or not It appears you are comparing the Supreme 3 to the Ultimate 2. Even though triple pane windows can have low-E on surface 4 it is only more of a concern on du...

Re: Indianapolis - Central Indiana companies
Most “national” owned companies are individually owned franchised companies . Look for ones that have stood by their manufacturer vs ones that keep seeking bottom dollar. The 3 hour presentation is hard to to predict as many use it as a sales tactic. Typically I can measure out house in 15 minutes ,...

Re: Pocket v Full Viewable Glass Size
There are things to consider when only doing a partial replacement when choosing between inserts , “full frame” and finned new construction windows. The latter 2 Are gonna give more viewable glass but they can change inward and outward appearances. Ideally you choose something that meshes with your ...

Re: Incorrectly framed new window installation
I agree with WOW on the both, I think the 2x6 is minimal but we I ain’t no engineer so why not go bigger . While you’re at it I would want the sill tilted 5degrees for drainage along with some pan flashing . You may want some Additional framing at the spit and back side which could go horizontal or ...
