Re: replacement window comparisons...Please help

Silverline 8700's are sliders and the 3100's are single hung windows. You probally meant silverline 8500's.I am not familiar with the 3100's but the 3201's are a nice window for the money and I would use those over the Silverline 8500's.Home depot also sells Simonton's but you sometimes have to ask a...

Re: Tax Credit vs. Energy Star

The Dept. of Energy has the new R5 program that requires around a .22 u-factor.Even if they set the standards higher somebody will make a low cost or cheap window to meet those standards.Menards already stocks R5 windows on the shelf sold under Certainteed's name.

Re: Old Craftsman Style House Renovation - needs lots of windows

I would not worry about them being a "sealed" system when being used with a storm/combination window.Tilt-pacs with a storm will also give an excellent windbreak. The savings in cost should more than equal out even with the ETC.I do no of one company working on being ETC qualified as we spe...

Re: LoE windows

The Low-e is usually easier to spot from the exterior side.It would not be uncommon for the glass to look different if you are mixing different brands of windows and glass. It would be best to talk to your contractor 1st,unless you are starting to have doubt in them.

Re: Rotten Seat Board on Bow Window

There also should be some type of insulation under the seat. You will probally get a wide range in cost on repairing the window because of the rot and unforseen. Most will want to replace because of the rot and unknown. There is typically more money to be on replacing the window as well. This would be a...

Re: Old Craftsman Style House Renovation - needs lots of windows

Tilt-pacs/jambliner kits would be a very good option. They are economical and you could utilize the new storm windows you just installed.I second getting an energy audit done as well.Your starting to get up there in age but I think you could handle the install.

Re: Lost business with lead law

I personally do not know any contractors who are not following the rules.I do know quite a few who are just not doing RRP which I think has helped me.Most owners I have dealt with already know about the rule. How much has your insurance gone up?

Re: Lost business with lead law

None,we have been doing lead abatment/reduction work for many years. In MN regulated lead rules are over and beyond RRP rules. How much has your insurance gone up?I am sure your insurance company would rather see you using lead safe work practices and documenting your work and cleaning. How did you con...

Re: Lost business with lead law

I have gained business because of the lead rules. There are alot of homeowners who have a hard time finding a contractor who is RRP certified and is trying to get them for an extra $150 an opening.

Re: Replacements for Silverline Screens

Contact silverline directly or try someone else who sells silverline.Home depot never stocked them seperately but still should be able to order them.It is not normal even for silverline screens to fall apart after only 2-3 years of normal use.
