Re: Park Avenue Windows

Whoa! I retract my previous statement. If that price is for the windows only (no install), that is insane!

Re: Park Avenue Windows

The Park Ave is a nice window...I don't think that they offer it with anything but the E3 krypton package... The price seems a tad high, but it also depends on options as well as the circumstances of the installation. If you are getting a woodgrain, grids, and need some trim work, I wouldn't say tha...

Re: Your opinion on my estimate

Eagle makes a nice window, I believe that they are now owned by Anderson. It is hard to say on price though, wood windows have even more variables in pricing than other materials IMO.

Re: Pella proline450???

I have installed many Pella Proline products and have nothing but bad experience(poor seal, excessive condensation, etc). Look at the Architect/Designer series if you like Pella.

Re: The usual plea for help -- bow window

The price difference you're seeing is due to the difference between vinyl (Simonton) and wood (Marvin, Pella)... There are pros and cons to each, although vinyl provides a lot of value. ..BTW, if you are considering Pella, don't consider the Proline, only the Designer or Architect.

Re: The usual plea for help -- bow window

By the Op's description, I don't think that it is an actual "bow window", but rather a bow-shaped bump-out.

Re: Illinois Gorrell vs Jel -win at menards

If you think that Republic stinks than don't even dare go near the Menards window dept! .... Gorell is a very good choice even among "pro-grade" products. Anything that you can buy at the "big boxes" won't even come close.

Re: The usual plea for help -- bow window

To answer your questions: -Simonton makes a good product, pricing is hard to say for sure as I'm not familiar with your market, however based on your other quotes it seems to be decent. -I would DEFINITELY dismiss the guys with the 2-3hr presentations and high-pressure. Do not reward these tactics w...

Re: I Need A Ton of Help in Northern NJ

I would advise against Lowes or HD as they use lower end products and underpay their subs IMO. Going through Pella is ok, although I'd only look at their Designer/Architect/Renovations wood lines, and you'll pay a premium. As far as a handyman install, I guess it depends on his experience. If he is ...

Re: Replacement Window Help in Colorado Springs

I would not say that the Sunrise window is overhyped, it is very good... Check out Simonton and Gorell as mentioned... Other solid choices would be Okna, Softlite, and PlyGem/Great Lakes. I know you mentioned that you aren't looking for the "best", however as they say, only rich people can...

Re: Wood Windows, Pella Architect Series vs RBA

I think that you have two choices that are "premium" in price, but leave something to be desired in other areas. Pella's Architect/Designer series is fairly decent, however I'd prefer Weathershield or Marvin at that price. DO NOT look at any of Pella's entry level products such as the Prol...

Re: News windows for Old Home

I think that any of your 3 choices are pretty good. In terms of your question on reinforcement, it really depends on the build of the windows. Some products are built to maximize glass area and need that reinforcement, others have very strong extrusions where it is not necessary. That being said, yo...
