I'd agree. R20 is terrible.

Re: Marvin Infinity Windows Good for Detroit Climate?
The Restorations, Okna, and a few others are much better than the Infinity for air leakage. If that is a concern of yours, be advised.

Fibrex is a good idea from a marketing perspective and that's about it. It offers no other benefit.

Re: What to look for in a replacement window
This is called American Greed. Really? With few exceptions there are not too many window company owners that are filthy rich. The mark up in the home improvement industry in general is pretty meager in comparison to other industries. This type of attitude is exactly why so many companies go out of ...

Re: Who Makes a Good Garden Window That's Not Too Expensive?
What would lead you to believe that? Just wondering. Not a terrible product, but doesn't really fit that description (great) either.JoeTheAuthor wrote:We've decided to go with PlyGem replacement vinyl windows, and we think they're going to be great.
Garden windows are very pricey. $1800 is operating at a loss.

Re: Can you tell me if my installers are cutting corners?
Sounds like its under control. I agree with the other guys that there is probably some items in need of addressing here, just be careful to remember that there is a pretty big gap between the best and ideal procedures, and those that meet minimum requirements. The install looks closer to that "...

Softlote pro or Okna 400. I agree with the other comment though, that the 500 or 800 from okna would be a big step up, as would the Elements with Softlite.

Re: another newbie with price quote please help
Great Lakes was once a higher end window, but they have not done much to improve the product over the past 20 years, other than get purchased by Plygem which IMO has actually pushed the product down stream. Like the other guys mentioned, air numbers are not good, u-factor nothing special. The family...

Re: Marvin/Wasco/Feldco/champion
This reminds me of that Sesame Street bit "one of these things don't belong". You are looking at three very budget minded vinyl windows, and then throwing one of the top wood windows in the mix. I'd first decide whether you want wood or vinyl. The fact that you are open to vinyl in the fir...

Re: Gorell
Sorry to hear that bayfeet. Unfortunately you are not alone, and I am hearing the same story with more frequency lately. I don't know of any lawsuit, but perhaps one will come sooner than later. If nothing else, this is certainly not reflecting on Softlite as a company in a positive manner.
