Re: Window replacement
You don’t need new construction from what I can see. I think a good replacement window would be fine. What the one company said about “ the windows being joined together” and therefore not able to be replacement is complete nonsense and almost laughable.

Re: Replacement windows
He probably measured the windows “ rough open” which is very common. You dont ever order windows the exact size of the opening in order to properly square the window during install. Some contractors may measure from inside and some may choose to do it from the outside. 1/2” space is pretty typical.

Crystal and Silverline are total garbage. Unless you want the cheapest looking windows in the world, stick to your original quotes.

Good ole uncle eddie speaks the truth. His boy george example was absolutely brilliant although I would of used Mr. T.
I wouldnt say Im ready to have uncle eddie baby sit my kids yet but i do wish he would come around more often, the dude is a breath of fresh air.

Their install seems to be within the realm of acceptability. They will win any legal dispute.

Re: Windows 1-2” off sitting in existing frames!!
"they are already making a profit"... What does that mean? its irrelevant and how do you know... If you agreed to a price through a contract, don't try and search or reasons not to pay them. They can easily raise the sill and properly install the window, what I see is far from terrible on ...

Re: Coil trim?
What they are doing is totally normal and the most common practice. The wood being weathered is fine if capped with aluminum as long as it isnt rotted ( soft ). I also think that product is fairly new. Unless they specifically stated in the contract ( not verbal ) that they would be removing trim, t...

Re: OKNA 500 windows and Noise
Thats very difficult to quantify, what may be noisy to you may not be noisy to the installer. Its certainly not the installers fault.
Also, you claim “ prior to him changing the caulk you could’nt hear a siren”. Changing caulk has nothing to do with sound. I think you may be grasping at straws.

Not sure what state you live in but as far as quality and energy efficiency with a nice looking exterior, you may want to look into Okna Windows.

Re: Soft Lite Element vs Slocomb vs Window World?
I would immediately scratch MI Windows and Window World from that list. They are not what we would consider quality. MI windows and Window World are for “ budget oriented” customers, not those who want quality and plan on living in their homes for a while. MI and Window World are cheap looking and h...
