Thanks Brandon.
Most companies that I deal with require that the leg height on the sides of eyebrows be a minimum of 4” and that’s what I would do. This would maximize the size of the lower unit. I tried to find a photo to demonstrate, but couldn’t locate one.

Re: Recommendations on eyebrow layout
Glad to hear you’ve located a window and contractor that you feel good about. My choice would be a large picture window with an eyebrow stacked on top - for the window over the door. I’ve attached a photo of job we did recently (aluminum). As to the window in the office, I’d do something similar; ei...

Re: Jamb Depth Question
I agree with HomeSealed; generally speaking, a narrower vinyl profile is not preferred. That is true in almost all parts of the country, and it’s particularly true in areas with extreme weather (hot or cold). It allows the manufacturer to use less material and increase profits margins, but it often ...

Re: Sunrise Vanguard Weep hole
Single or double hung windows should not have weep holes. They are a sign of a poor design in anything other than sliders. Keeping water out of the sill will help prevent leaks, not increase the likelihood.
The Sunrise Vanguard is an upper line of vinyl windows.

Re: just replacing the window glass instead of the entire window.
When you jump the sheetrock and sill, you end up having to add additional trim to the exterior of the window (photo attached). If you like the look of the additional trim, go ahead with the contractor who installs this way. It is certainly a lot faster and cheaper on them. IMG_6540.JPG The first pho...

Re: Provia Aspect or Sunrise Standard?
I second the recommendation to speak with Windows on Washington before making a final decision. You won’t find a better company to do business with in your area. They offer a line of vinyl windows that are superior to the ones you’ve seen so far.

Re: Provia Aspect or Sunrise Standard
If I might make a recommendation - before you button the project up, call Windows on Washington. They are on Okna dealer, and that’s a brand that is superior to both of the ones you’ve seen so far. Their prices are competitive, and their customer care & attention to detail are second to none.

Re: Replacement windows in IL
Guess that makes me unreasonable, since I won’t separate labor from materials. There’s no reason to since I will not sell the windows without installing them, and I won’t install windows that I don’t provide.

Re: just replacing the window glass instead of the entire window.
Seems like most contractors want to jump the sheetrock and sill rather than cutting them back. As you said, it’s easier on them. However, it’s not in the homeowner’s best interest at all. New construction windows are not difficult to remove, if you know what you’re doing. The fact that he thinks the...

Re: New vendor - about to take a chance in austin
If you’re set on vinyl, NT would be a decent choice for a mid-grade quality window. I don’t know anything about Ringer - good or bad. Don’t get rushed into making a quick decision, better to get hit with a price increase than to make a quick bad decision. While Soft-lite makes top-tier vinyl windows...

Re: Good vinyl brand in oklahoma
While I’m a big fan of Don Young’s aluminum windows, their vinyl lines are average at best. The 5200 is their single hung vinyl and the 5400 is their double hung vinyl.
To repeat what I posted previously on this thread, NT Windows would be a good mid-grade vinyl window to consider in Oklahoma.

Re: just replacing the window glass instead of the entire window.
There certainly are a lot of window companies these days, and few who are truly interested in serving their customers to the best of their ability. Best thing to do is take your time and don’t let a contractor rush you into a decision by using discounts for immediate purchase or fear of price increa...

Re: just replacing the window glass instead of the entire window.
PlyGem builder grade windows are not very airtight, so I too would suggest replacing the entire window with one that has an AL rating below .05. Replacing a couple of bedroom windows first to hear the difference is wise, just prepare pay a little more for such a small job. I would use laminated glas...

Re: Good vinyl brand in oklahoma
NT Windows should be available in Oklahoma and they would be a good alternative to Simonton; not in the same league as Soft-lite or Okna, but a decent option to consider.
