Re: Can Anyone Verify?

The sliders with the internal blinds will not qualify for the tax credit as they do not have any type of gas filling or modern low-e coating. I don't even think that most of the manufacturers are even sending them out for testing as they know it's a waste of their money. The performance numbers for ...

Re: And the winner is.....

It's the exact same foil as Soft-Lite has. Woodgrain/textured and all. It looks really nice. What would be really cool would be to have these exterior laminates available with woodgrain interior laminates.

Re: And the winner is.....

Should be the foil laminate. Price seems fair, especially for the patio sliders. Good job, you found some great products.

Re: replacement window choices

A lot has been posted about Consumer Reports and how they pick windows that are to be tested over the last couple of years. CR basically choice only to test something that consumers could get access to on a National basis from a walk in type of store. American Craftsman/Silverline is very low-grade....

Re: Replacement Sliding Doors

Not unless you're in a Southern Climate. Those aluminum frames conduct the outside temperature to the inside of the house quite easily. Also, those older doors usually don't have as much weatherstripping as the better sliders that are produced currently. I would be curious as to what the cost would ...

Re: To caulk or not to caulk???

To really insulate those pockets correctly, it is going to be somewhat time consuming and is more likely in the field of professional insulators than window window installers. It's pretty easy to do when one can pull interior or exterior trim as you would have access to the entire cavity, but that's...

Re: Replacing Windows in Western NJ

Lucky you! 8 years, that's terrible. Down my way Toll Brothers mainly builds estate homes that start at $500K. I've seen them use low-grade vinyl and wood Andersens. Either way, most of their homes have either a brick, stucco, or stone face with vinyl on the other 3 sides. All of their windows would...

Re: Contractor installing Marvin inserts with no frame

I've seen local framing crews that work for national and regional builders install flanged new construction garbage with attempts to do everything (wrong of course) to keep water out and they still can leak. Even though you don't have a nailing fin/flange your installation can be salvaged with prope...

Re: Comparing Replacement Vinyl Brands In Eastern PA

The board itself is not connected with any particular manufacturer. You may find a couple of local posters on the board that service your area that are also authorized Soft-Lite dealers. You may also contact Soft-Lite directly. The rep for your region should be Furman Raine.

Double should be fine for your area. Most of the outfits in you area aren't even mentioning triple unless a particular customer is inquiring about it.

Re: Storm Windows?

ProVia makes a couple of series of storm windows. We have installed a few jobs with them for historical areas. They are very nice for what they are. These things aren't cheap either. I can tell you this, you aren't gonna make a living installing or selling storm windows.

Re: Ply Gem Great Lakes Seabrooke replacement windows

That be some of nicest metal bending that I've ever seen. That isn't a 15 minute per window cap job. I'm gonna have to dust off my Vanmark trim former and play with the casters as I'm not going to be able to sleep until I duplicate those bends. Nice job.....

Re: Difference between Eartwise-Dream House= Newton slocumb

I'm not exactly sure how Earthwise comes into play. Many manufacturers offer several different lines of windows that can vary in features and price. I was in a Lowes store in PA yesterday and came across a display from Accu-Weld with a private label with their old Epoch 2300 series. I've seen this m...

Re: Difference between Eartwise-Dream House= Newton slocumb

The owners of Dreamhouse came into some type of ownership of Newtown, which in turned merged with Slocumb. Another one of those fast talking "marketing companies" that makes their own windows, blah, blah, blah....... I've seen a lot of Slocumbs as they had been in Delaware forever. Low-gra...
