Just a suggestion, and as a general rule, if and when purchasing a triple pane window, as much as possible ensure that Krypton is used as the gas infill (also per W4U's post). If and when purchasing a double pane, then argon fill is the best way to go. Krpton's energy performance maximizes in IGU sp...

glass types

I may be picking nits, but the comparisons listed in the original post are for different versions of LowE coatings and not different types of glass. I realize that most of the regulars here understand that, but new, and as yet uneducated, folks might be confused into thinking that there are differen...

LowE2

Just a quick clarification. LowE2 (actually it is LowE squared) does not mean that the LowE is on both panes, rather it is Cardinal's brand name for their dual silver coated products. Softcoat LowE is almost always applied to the number 2 surface of an IG...this is the inner side of the exterior lite.

you guys have made my morning!

I have nothing to compare with any of those.
Guy, describing yourself rolling out of that window just before it goes free-fall! I was laughing so hard.
W4U, I would have peed my pants when those people came charging up!!!

I was a bit concerned that someone was giving you some really questionable advice!

Actually Mark, that is double pane. The three flames are the two lites and the Low-E on the inside of one of the lites.
Triple pane would be 5 flames...three for the lites and two (assuming two Low-E coatings) for the coatings.

mullions

I am really curious what your installer meant when he said that the mullions sit on the spacer? A mullion is something that is used to join windows or doors or whatever together...or sometimes it is also referred to as a mull or mulling. Unless he meant muntins which are used in true divided lite wi...

Heat Mirror

Heat mirror is an interesting product. It is manufactured by Southwall Technologies from an idea developed at MIT back in the late 60's early 70's. Basically, it is a sheet of PET film suspended within the IGU with a coating on the PET. The energy numbers for Heat Mirror are truly remarkable. But, t...

Low-E

Quick and dirty... There are two types of Low-E coatings currently available, hardcoat and softcoat. Hardcoat, also called pyrolitic, consists of a layer of tin oxide applied to the top side of the glass during the float process. Hardcoat is durable and can be used on either the inside or the outsid...

spacer

I was trying to be subtle - perhaps too much so as I reread my earlier post - trying to avoid suggesting a particular window. But I 100% agree with FenEx's assessment of the spacer system. I will say oops, because my post can be read that I was saying that Intercept was the better system of the two ...

I really try to avoid commenting on specific window company comparisons.
I will say that you might ask if the Intercept spacer is manufactured using stainless steel versus tin-coated steel. Intercept is a much better system when using stainless...

good question

bizzeebee, I would suggest asking this question again on the main "board".
Also, there was a very similar question within the past two weeks or so that might be worth checking out - also on the main board.

Good luck

choices

Ultimately Cheryl, it has to be your choice. You are the one who has to live with the decision. Are you happy with both companies sales presentations? Have you checked on who will actually be installing the windows? At LEAST as important as who made them. Have you followed up with consumer complaint...

safety glass

I have seen cases where people try to break a piece of highly tempered glass with a blunt object such as a hammer, but are a little bit hesitant to actually HIT it hard. And then the hammer bounces off the temepered glass without breaking it! Makes a great demo though. I think that there is a bit of...
