Barrier free patio doors?

#1 Post by talkingdog »

Hi all,

My first post here. Actually looking for new rather than replacement windows, but here's the question anyway.

In the past year or so the Japanese aluminum window makers, such as YKKAP and others, have come out with offerings of patio doors and bifolding doors that have flush or "barrier free" threshholds. Absolutely flush with the finish floor. Hate stubbing my toe on patio door threshholds.

I'm wondering if any North American manufacturers have such barrier free patio doors (European, too). I don't have a specfic problem with the quality or price of the YKK product, but I would really prefer something in wood or fiberglass, and all YKK makes is aluminum.

Ask the manufacturers if they make a commercial door. They make the thresholds lower for wheelchair access but A) they'll charge more because it's not something that's commonly sold and B) the insulation ratings will be nowhere near as good.

Thanks, that's about what I thought.

Judging from the schematics I've seen, it's technically a lot more
difficult to make a flat threshhold. Once I saw one in operation in
real iife I decided I just gotta have it.
