Storms vs new windows

#1 Post by DB »

House is 1940 vintage with 14 double hung wood windows. Decent shape (nothing new glazing, caulking and paint won't cure) Salesman for Mon Ray storm windows says new storms with Low-E glass and laminate would be great update for efficiency and noise.
Marvin salesman recommended new insert (as opposed to sash kit). Obviously a couple of bucks more.
Anyone had any experience with the Mon Ray storm windows? Thanks

Storm windows can add some savings but nothing like an insert will do for you. Marvins Tilt-Pac would be a good choice if your existing windows are square and level. They are a breeze to install and work well when the opening is level. They can be hell if there are out of level. They are also much easier on your pocket. If the Marvin dealer is not giving you all the options, kick his @&* down the road and find another. Good Luck!!!
