Removing upper window.
Removing upper window.
Is there a standard way to remove the upper portion of the window from double hung windows? I do not know the manufacture of our windows but they are aluminum frame. The bottom window removes by pushing out two tabs on either side the the frame then rasing the bottom window until it releases. I can not determine how the upper window should be removed so they can be measured and replaced by replacement windows. Thanks!

you should not have to remove the sashes to measure for replacements.
are these new construction or replacement?
If these are new construction, you may have what are called "fin frames". If you are a "do it yourselfer" and you have these type of windows, I would suggest you leave this one to the pros.
