Windows4U or someone, need quick help on Gorell price quotes

#1 Post by windowshopper »

I just received quotes for Gorell windows. 11 windows 2 of which are sliders. (7) 31 x 53 (2) 27 x 45 (2) sliders (1) 35 x 34 (1) 34 x 22 3/8

5300 triple pane supposedly R-10 normally $7,317.00 ($665 each)
as part of a larger order $5,524.00 ($502.18 each)

5300 double pane supposedly R-4 $4700.00 ($427.27 each)

5200 double pane supposedly R-4 $ 4,350.00 ($395.00 each)
5100 double pane supposedly R-4 $4,250 ($386.36 each)

He said he would also give me 2 storm doors at his cost plus what the install cost and show me the bill to prove it is his cost. Don!t know installation cost yet. I have to respond by 9:00 a.m. tomorrow because he is placing the large order which I did see.

Are these fair prices for the Gorell windows? Please help.
Are the R values accurate?

The R factors given are only for center of glass, not the whole window. That said, their numbers are correct.
The price for the 5300's as part of a larger order is very fair at $502.18 per window. I wouldn't pay $665 though for this window, even if you are ordering only a couple of them. For less than that price, you could upgrade to the Schuco 4000 w/triple and get some real premium features and a window with some real longevity.

If you want the triple glazed 5300 but can't afford it, the 5100 and 5200 models of the Gorell window are also available with the "R-10" glass, so that may be a way to get the much better glass and save a little money too.

By the way, his attempt to get you to buy now so he can place your order with another large order is a sales ploy. The windows cost the same no matter how many he buys per week. {unless he's buying a couple thousand of them this week) The only real discount Gorell gives is free double-pane low-e glass a couple times a year to spur sales.
.
The 5100 with double glass is an average mid-grade window, so don't pay too much for it. When I sold the 5100 with double pane low-e, I sold it for about $330-340 max.

When you say:

Is the $330 - $340 the window-only price or installed price. If a window-only price, what would be the installed price? I'm trying to get a feel for a reasonable installed price for a 90 UI window in the 5100 double glass.

Thanks.[/quote]

My price was installed in a wood double-hung opening. Metal window tearout or other factors can raise the price. You also have to realize many markets especially out east are going to be higher than where I am at.
