1st time posting - enlarge existing windows?

#1 Post by araujo »

We're about to close on a 1910 house that has lots of warts, but we hope some potential. We're also in the insane housing market of the SF Bay Area, so we'll have very little left over if/when the home is officially ours. I thought I should start educating myself now - and have pored over all 7 pages of current posts!

My question is - what is involved in enlarging and replacing existing aluminum windows (jalousie)? The house was originally wood, and 'modernized' in the 50s - now it's stucco. The current windows are quite small and set a bit high on the side walls. We're also considering either a bow for the front or bay off the back kitchen. Some of this is fantasy - but that's what we'd save for...
It seems like we have to prioritize improvements too - new windows before repainting the exterior and interior, for example?
I'd appreciate any wisdom and recommendations
This is a wonderful board - thanks!
