Greetings all and thanks in advance for your help.

We are in the Boston Metro South area.

Looking to replace 16 windows and 1 double casement in Split Entry style home.

Do double hung windows cost more than single hung what are the advantages/disadvantages of both? (7 windows up and 9 windows down) With casement window I dont want to lose a lot of glass area as we were told would happen.

What are our options, we dont want to break the bank nor do we want to put in cheap windows.

We have a couple of quotes for Harvey Classic with low-e with argon gas and grids @ around $6500 and one Monarch @ $5400 and these prices do not include the double casement, do these sound like a fair price.

In reading a few posts I gather picking the right contractor is just as important as choosing the right window. What we most want is to choose the right window then the right contractor unless someone else has a better method.

Let me know if more information is needed.
