In this forum's home page, there was a description of different materials and I was impressed with the write up on fibrex. Now I see a lot of unhappy homeowners who had chose RBA as contractors. Since they are the only ones handling fibrex, my choice, then would be vinyl.Any reccomendations??

Well Moses, Have you looked at Pella's "Impervia: window yet. It's made with a fiberglass product which is by far the strongest and most durable product available in the window industry. They have spent millions of dollars in creating their "Duracast" fiberglass product. It's almost as strong as Carbon Fiber. It's a five layered engineered composite that is highly stable. It won't expand, warp or sag in the high heats of our hot Summers and it won't shrink or turn brittle in our cold MN Winters. It's almost ten times stronger than vinyl and twice as strong as aluminum. The best thing is you can paint them any color you want. Check them out you won't regret it!!!!

Point of interest regarding this thread;

We look for professionals from all manufacturers to participate on this board and others we administer. In fact about two years ago we were quite interested in the Fibrex product and in particular its development and introduction into the marketplace; so much so that we contacted Renewal by Andersen to express this and offered to create a new section on the site devoted to this product line. They sent us some informational sheets that we scanned and put up on the site. All of this material was put up exactly the way it was sent to us, complete with all logos, Renewal contact information, ect. Between this site and others of ours we attract over 1,000,000 unique visitors per year, (not hits but unique visitors).

As you can imagine that is a tremendous amount of exposure, and at the time we had the section devoted to Renewal we were basically parading 80,000 professionals and window shoppers by their product every month.

Well after about four months we were contacted by Renewal stating that they did not want their name, and material on the sites, and that we had to take it down immediately. They felt it was damaging to their brand name and were rather direct about removing it immediately. Safe to say we were a bit surprised at this, especially given that we were pretty convinced it had to be driving sales for them just through the fact that a lot of people looking for replacement windows are not aware of Fibrex, and Renewal. We took the material down.

We wanted to explain this history to demonstrate we are in no way biased against this product, and in fact went out of our way to make active consumers aware of it. We have never understood why a business would take this approach, however their attitude does seem to carry on today.

Installation Warranty

#19 Post by SoCalWindowMan »

All you have to do is look at the installation warranty. Only 2 years for this window. So when the window leaks down the road they blame the installer and the installer blames Anderson. Happens all the time. Milgard is even worse they dont even give a installation warranty. A decent window will have a installation warranty over 5 years. If it doesnt look out. The recent rains in California have really caused problems for Anderson and Milgard dealers as well as others. Read the fine print before buying windows. Most have no labor warranty or installation warranty or even a transferable warranty, so you have to pay if something goes wrong with the windows. Anderson and Milgard spend most of their money on marketing.

No window Manufacturer should be required to warranty the installation of their product if not done by inhouse installers or authorized personel. This is 90% of the problem in the industry. Poor installation by unqualified tradesmen have brought on enormous lawsuits strapping our already incompetent judicial system. Why in Gods Green Earth should they pay for some idiot penny pinching contractor. Who paid three drunks on the corner a case a beer to nail the windows in place. So he could save a dollar!! They shouldn't!! The homeowner finds a leak and calls the contractor, he calls the supplier and they in turn call the manufacturers rep. They always go after the deep pockets saying it was a product defect. Bull$*&%!!!!!!! The manufacturer ends up giving them new windows and paying an authorized installer to do the work. Why!!! Because it's cheaper then the lawsuit!!!! This is why we are here and scream bloody murder about quality windows and installers!!!!! It's Black and White folks. You don't want to pay the guy mowing your lawn to do your Vasectomy. Protect your goods!!!!! Use the right product and qualified installers!!!
