Installation Question

#1 Post by windownovice »

What is the preferred method for filling new window vs. window opening gaps to prevent air and water infiltration?

A) Using pieces of wood and the pink fiberglass insulation.

B) Using low expansion foam insulation.

I contacted the window manufacturer and they had no preferred installation method but did caution that the low expansive foam insulation could cause a window to bow if too much was used.

Couldn't the pink fiberglass insulation lose insulating value if it got wet?

Your suggestions and experience would be appreciated.

The dealer has said he will fill the gaps with wood and regular insulation. He also said custom fit windows would be an extra $100 per window ($200 for the side by side 2 window casement in my kitchen).

2) What is the preferred method for filling the window vs. frame gaps to prevent air and water infiltration?
