Installing Okna vs Sunrise vs Pella vs Andersen

#1 Post by WindowReplace »

Hello,

I am trying to get an idea with the difference installing Okna, Sunrise, Pella, and Andersen windows. For a DIY, which would you say needs the most precise install, which are the most difficult to do correctly, and which come with instructions?

We are replacing old vinyl windows and with vinyl. Hoping for pocket installing of the windows, thinking andersen were the original frame. Older house andersen on windows but mot 100% about original frame.

Lots of questions in here.

You sure this is a great undertaking? if you aren't super familiar with a retrofit install, this is a good way to have water come in the house.

- How do you intend to install a new vinyl window into an old vinyl frame (pocket)? That's not advisable... or are you pulling previously installed pocket replacements out of original wood frames?

- Most windows come with some instructions that apply to the most general, basic installations. These would not likely be much help in your application (if you have vinyl new construction windows). Also, as WoW alluded to, your circumstances don't make for the simplest installation to begin with, if you are in need of instructions this project may be better left to professionals. If the existing are indeed replacements already it does become easier.

- To answer your question, Okna provides a a pretty stout frame that is easier to install correctly. The Sunrise will rack a little bit more and take greater care (more shims and fasteners) to get dialed in. That said, both of these windows will have limited availability for DIY install and may or may not be available in your area. On Pella and Andersen it depends entirely on which of their many models/materials you are considering.

Thanks. Just only did andersen replacements. Read about American craftsman being great if installed prefectly. Never heard or know anyone with okna or sunrise, so looking for a better option than Andersen cause can’t get vinyl replacement for less than 900 a window.

Thanks.

Wood out ≠ Vinyl retrofit.

American Craftsman ≠ quality vinyl
