North Star or Sunrise Restoration Windows?

#1 Post by bassman »

North Star or Sunrise Restoration replacement windows? Looking for input on the pros/cons of each brand of windows for the SE Michigan area. Priced very close. North Star installation will be down to the studs....Sunrise will be windows only.....North Star uses the spiral system for raising/lowering which Sunrise uses block and tackle.

TIA !

Restorations: KR90 Triple-pane glass with U <= 0.18
Fiberglass reinforced sashes
Foam-filled frames
Lifetime warranty including glass breakage cover
40% energy savings guarantee

I say, "No brainer"

North Star.The only reason to reinforce a window with fiberglass is that their vinyl is not strong enough.North Star has triple as well.Good luck.

That is not even remotely true when it comes to the basis for reinforcement. Most of the measured deflection is at the meeting rail and if you can have a much slimmer profile and still maintain DP performance by reinforcing with fiberglass of kevlar...why wouldn't you?

just nervous of any vinyl that needs reinforcement

North Star can make a single casement window 36x72 and a 40 square foot picture window with no extra help to their vinyl.they do not have a very big profile.

You are comfortable with North Star though? You have promoted it in about 3 threads now.

Foam filling is bad now? Holds moisture? Please explain how a closed cell foam can hold moisture?

Just looked up North Star and the best window that I can find is a 0.21 with krypton. Pretty average triple pane number at best. Once you start getting in the high teens and low teens, you have a product to brag about.

Maybe they need to send that window off for testing. NFRC has the window on file as a 0.21

If you are quoting COG, that you must really be working for them.
