We are building a new house & purchased "replacement" windows vs "new construction" windows. Our vendor did not tell us up front that they were replacement windows.
When our builder told us, we discussed it with the window vendor & he said they are excellent windows.
Are "replacement" windows inferior to "new construction" windows? What is the difference?

In some brands, they are the same window except for the nailing fin.
On other windows, the new construction windows are inferior and would be classified as "low grade".
How did they tell you they were going to install and flash these windows? If you are not sure, please find out and re-post. The installation method is critical in this situation and we could help you to make sure your install is done correctly.
Oh, by the way, what brand and series are they?

Also i would imagine that since your vendor was familiar with the project he should have been aware of the installation method. If you can prove you showed this "pro" your project you can argue he should have known better than to recomend replacement on new construction on a new construction application.

I would have the salesman explain what they mean by replacement window. Usually what they mean is your window will come in a wider frame style. Most of todays vinyl new construction windows come in a smaller (2.50") frame thickness. The replacement or insert window comes in a bigger (3.25"). Both can come with nail fins or not. In either case as W4U said you must find out if your windows are coming with nail fins or not. This is very critical to your installation. Your new windows should come with nail fins for the installation. Good Luck!!!
