replacing window in Florida.
replacing window in Florida.
I looking for a quality window, SHGC is more important than u-factor. I feel that vinyl with double pane would be best. Just not sure who to go with. I have looked at Pella, Simonton, anderson and marvin.

Re: replacing window in Florida.
Look for a 3 coat Low-e (Low-e 366).
Marvin does not make vinyl.
Andersen does not make vinyl directly although their Silverline window is owned by Andersen. Quality on that window is questionable to say the least. The Renewal by Andersen window is basically vinyl and wood if you really want to get technical about it.
Pella vinyl is garbage and doesn't belong in a shed/dog house window.
Simonton makes a good vinyl window.
Is your home in a coastal region?

Look at PGT, Custom Windows (if South Florida), and Gorell.

I disagree. The window would provide plenty of fresh air for the dog ......even closed.Windows on Washington wrote:

Thanks, I didn't think it would be this difficult. I don't live on the cost but close to it in the Tampa Area I have aluminum window in my house now and they are the original and are over 30 years old. Just would like to get good life out of the next ones. I don't want to go through this again

Why do you feel that vinyl would be best? Pella, Andersen, and Marvin all built their respective brands around wood windows. Stating that SHGC is important tells me you live where the sun is hot. Vinyl's biggest weakness is expansion, softening, and sagging under the weight of glass in the hot sun.kislet5 wrote:I looking for a quality window, SHGC is more important than u-factor. Perhaps you should look again at Pella and Marvin, but this time at their fiberglass lines. They should be more cost effective than wood, but more durable than vinyl.

Re: replacing window in Florida.
Heat of deformation temperature for vinyl is close to 160 deg F. You are hard pressed to run anywhere near that number in FL. Texas or AZ might be more problematic.
