replacing casement window cranks

#1 Post by mtg »

We're remodeling a 1954 house, and replacing 2 old casement windows is out of the budget. At the very least, I'd like to replace the cranks, which have been stripped, but am not sure where to look for replacments. Each window has 3 sashes that each rotate about a horizontal axis, and one operator controls them all.

Any advice on where to look, or how difficult it will be? Thanks.

I think you have "awning windows". Take the broken operator to a local glass shop and they should be able to order a replacement. You might also want to look online. Don't waste your time with HD or Lowes.

You're right, they are awning windows. Shows how much I know. Thanks for the advice.
