Tinted Low-Solar Low-E windows vs Non-tinted windows

#1 Post by George Degard »

Do I need tinted low-E windows if the windows are low solar low-E windows already? Will the tinted windows cut the glare but allow the winter rays into the house?

The soft coat low-E for solor control is much better than tinted glass for solar control. However as it does a great job at solar control it also blocks that free solar heat gain in the winter. If you like the warm feeling standing behind a clear glass window in winter you will not get that same fuzzy feeling with the soft coat low-E as it effectively blocks the radiant heat.
